Well, what we have seen of the city is very impressive.  It has a true New York feel and people are bustling all over the place… Unfortunately, this is all we could say after being in Shanghai for 3 days.  After our first night here, Joe and I became ill.  It seems that we ate something that did not sit well with our Western stomachs.  For the past couple of days, we have ventured very little out of our hotel room and when we did we made sure to stay in close proximity to the hotel in case of the need for an emergency toilet stop!

Thankfully, in Shanghai, we decided to stay in a hotel versus a hostel or guest-house.  The rooms are really comfortable and the bathrooms are the best we have seen so far!  It has made being sick much easier.  Also, with high speed Internet access in our room and a load of recently purchased DVDs, we have been enjoying some down time!

We hope to resume our site seeing today as we are feeling a little better!  But I think that we will stay away from the street food vendors for a while…

If you got sick because you bought food from the street food vendors, YOU DESERVE TO BE SICK! I wouldn’t do it in T.O let alone Shanghai!!!???
    Hope you feel better soon.

Can’t believe you ate street meat in China! Penny, just because you can “squat” like the locals, doesn’t mean you can buy meat of a street… Hope it isn’t serious and that you can find some immodium…

    Hi,
Thanks for your concern! We are feeling well now and will be heading to Hangzhou this afternoon.
We are off to Sunday brunch this morning and are looking forward to keeping a meal in. Yay!

Hey Travellers! If this is the first time you’ve been sick after all of your adventures, I’d say you are doing pretty well. I had an opportunity to look at all of your photos (I can’t beleive the great wall is not visible from space – after all this time of thinking differently!) I have to say that your cameras were a great investment as your photos are VERY impressive – I particularly like the one of the great wall from inside the guard tower, and the one of you on the top of a sand hill in mongolia – you could sell those! Anyway, keep taking more photos. Can’t wait to see some from the islands – and the outback. Take care and be careful. C

    sick again?
i concur with the others: avoid chinese street “meat”. the “su mai” you think you’re having is probably “su mouse”.
and the people preparing your food are the same ones who’ve mastered the art of “no kleenex nose-blowing”.
    glad you’re better, though.
    great photos.
